River Mill New Patio!

River Mill Restaurant

When you think of Kingston Ontario, one imagines a beautiful waterfront, historic Fort Henry, stunning scenery, and fine restaurants. The River Mill Restaurant is more than just a place to get great food and catch up with friends. It is located in a landmark building built originally in 1882 as a cotton mill and later used as a woolen mill on the bank of the Cataraqui River. The old building has come a long way since then, now housing a variety of businesses under its roof such as salons, The Kingston Whig-Standard newspaper, and a private school, to name a few.  More than just bricks and mortar the River Mill represents where we came from and where we are going. Colin Altimas is the owner and visionary of the restaurant and has recently made a few improvements to his location. The restaurant has always had beautiful views of the bay area and hence was sought after for weddings and large gatherings. Now Colin and the Doornekamps (check) have added a 50-foot patio on the east side overlooking the water. Although Kingston has many restaurants a luxury patio on the calm open water is a first for Kingston. Patrons will be able to have a wonderful dinner overlooking the bay with a 180-degree panoramic view of motored and sailing ships entering the harbor.  We are excited to see what comes next for this beautiful property. If you are in the Kingston area shopping for a house drop into the River Mill Restaurant to live a bit of history and enjoy a wonderful lunch or dinner on their new riverside patio. It is located on what is called Molly's Point named after the famous Mohawk leader Molly Brant, or Degonwadonti  (Many opposed to one), wife and assistant to Sir William Johnson, the British Agent in colonial New York's Mohawk Valley. She is reported to have watched the river on the point after she and their children fled to Kingston after the American Revolution.
